The junior professorship has expertise in the fields of health, education and labour market economics as well as in methods of empirical economic research, in particular causal methods of microeconometrics. Matthias Westphal and his team are particularly concerned with returns to education, the consequences of demographic change, the effects of the expansion of education and the efficiency of health markets, especially for formal and informal care.
