Lehre

Der URI-Lehrstuhl bietet Vorlesungen, Seminare und Projekte in den Fakultäten Wirtschaftswissenschaften und Raumplanung an. Diese Kurse umfassen ökonomische Themen auf lokaler, regionaler und internationaler Ebene, wie z.B.:

  • Grundlagen der Mikro- und Makroökonomie
  • Humankapitalentwicklung in Wissensökonomien
  • Raumwahltheorie und Regionalentwicklung
  • Migration
  • Digitalisierung
  • Globalisierung

Wir bieten auch mehrere Kurse für das M.Sc. SPRING-Programm an, darunter Academic Writing und Economic Instruments for Regional Development Planning.

Forschungsthemen und Abschlussarbeiten

Das Lehrstuhlteam forscht in den Bereichen regionale Disparitäten, regionale Entwicklung, räumliche Verteilung der Wirtschaftstätigkeit, Agglomerationsökonomien, Migration, Peer-Effekte, Lernen und Wissensdiffusion, kreative und kulturelle Produktion (z.B. Kunstauktionen/Märkte, Literatur, Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft), internationaler Handel mit Waren und Dienstleistungen sowie Digitalisierung.

Call for PhD Applications

17.01.2020 – The Faculty of Business and Economics at the TU Dortmund University seeks to hire one funded PhD student in Economics.

The vacant positions shall be filled by April 1st. 2020. The position is initially based on a 3 year contract with a possible extension according to the aim of qualification. The position is remunerated according to salary group E-13 TV-L and part-time (50%). There is the possibility to doctorate.

REQUIREMENTS:
• The successful applicant should hold a Master’s degree in Economics, Spatial Planning or another relevant area
• High interest and motivation for topics in urban and international economics and/or creative production in cities
• High interest and ideally prior knowledge of quantitative methods as well as the relevant software packages
• Strong time management and communication skills
• Willingness to work interdisciplinarily
• Strong desire to write a doctoral dissertation in the candidate’s field of interest

TASKS:
• Teaching classes as well as advising students (2 hours weekly) in Urban and International Economics
• Collaboration on research projects and publications in the chosen research area
• Support in administrative tasks both in research and teaching

89th Annual Meeting of the Southern Economic Association

Sara

17.12.2019 – A member of the URI research team, Sara Mitchell, participated in the 89th Annual Meeting of the Southern Economic Association and the North American Cultural Economics Association Workshop on 23-25 November 2019 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Sara Mitchell presented a new research paper highlighting an innovative datasets on UK authors. Sara also served as discussant for the North American Cultural Economics Association Workshop.

 

URI Chair welcomes a new team member

07.10.2019 – The URI Chair is happy to introduce a new member of our research team. Maren Kaliske joined the URI Research team as a doctoral student and is part of the first cohort of the Research Training Group "Regional Disparities and Economic Policy”. She just recently graduated from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland with a MSc in Economics. Within her PhD and the topic of regional disparities, she wants to focus on regional and urban development, digitisation, international trade and political economy.

 

9th European Workshop of Applied Cultural Economics

EWACE 2019

13.09.2019 – The URI research team participated in the 9th European Workshop of Applied Cultural Economics on 5-7 September 2019 at the Copenhagen Business School. Christiane Hellmanzik, Lukas Kuld, and Sara Mitchell each presented new research papers highlighting their innovative datasets on UK and US authors. Vanessa Hellwig also attended as a participant. In addition, Christiane and Sara both served as sessions chairs, and Christiane also served as a member of the organising committee.

 

Call for Applications: Doctoral Research Positions

16.05.2019 – We are pleased to announce a Call for Applications for doctoral research positions in economics in "Regional Disparities and Economic Policy."
We offer at least 7 fully-funded doctoral research positions (75% TV-L E13, 3 years with the possibility of continuation funding) for the first cohort of students to enter in October 2019. The application deadline is 30 June 2019.

16.05.2019 – We are pleased to announce that Dr. Christiane Hellmanzik's paper "Relationships between artistic movements and careers of modern artists: evidence from hedonic regressions with auction data" (co-authored with Douglas Hodgson) has been published in the Journal of Cultural Economics. The article is available online at: https://doi.org/10.1007/s10824-019-09343-6.

14. März: Forschungstag im Landtag NRW

08.03.2018 – Das URI Team macht am 14.3. einen Forschungsworkshop am Landtag in Düsseldorf. Wir werden an diesem Tag unsere aktuellen Forschungsprojekte vorstellen, diskutieren und voran bringen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf den Vorhaben der Doktoranden, die ihre ersten Forschungspapiere konzipieren. Im Anschluss werden wir die Gelegenheit nutzen und den Landtag besichtigen.
